Evolution

Guccio Gucci’s family-owned leather saddlery shop started business with an aim towards the needs of horsemen. Hence, their main production consisted of a simple variety of leather bags, all throughout the 1920’s. He had just but started his career when his reputation rapidly built into a brand known for its quality, as he made sure to hire only the best craftsmen in Florence.

Soon Gucci’s newly made one-man business evolved into a family one, and, along with his sons, Aldo, Vasco, Ugo and Rodolfo, were able to expand the shop to Rome. By the 1950’s their fashion house already had stores in Milan and Manhattan, reaching every corner of the fashion world. His brand rapidly became iconic and was best regarded for his leather goods and ornamental loafer.

Gucci personified his signature patterns and even extended his use in product by adding silk, knitwear and canvas to his designs. The latter was what eventually held the first logo, made during World War II, with its characteristic font of the double-G symbol accompanied by a banner of red and green bands. This way, and soon, the brand’s merchandise quickly turned into an international status symbol, and by the 1970’s would prosper.
Like any business, they would also have their downfall in 80’s, along with family disputes and the terrible murder of Maurizio Gucci. Nonetheless, their fame never ceased.
